  • The CBAM Regulation must achieve climate objectives without negative consequences

Together with CECE and EGMF, FEM has co-signed a joint statement on the CBAM Regulation and its amendments, raising important concerns from downstream manufacturing industries.

While supporting the EU’s climate ambitions, we stress that climate policies must remain workable, predictable and compatible with maintaining Europe’s industrial competitiveness.

European manufacturing industries are experiencing uncertainty regarding CBAM-related costs, compliance obligations, and contractual risks. With manufacturers concluding sales contracts without knowing future CBAM costs they will bear – undermining legal certainty and exposing companies to significant financial risks.

We call for a postponement on CBAM obligations to allow sufficient time to assess impact which will support a more effective policy outcome for all.

A measured and evidence-based approach is essential to ensure that Europe’s climate goals go hand-in-hand with preserving industrial capacity, jobs and global competitiveness.
